Getting Started On Twitter – Twitter Basics
Comments (11) Filed under: Marketing, Twitter MarketingTags: Advanced Twitter Marketing, Twitter basics, Twitter Marketing
Many individuals are easily convinced to sign up with Twitter because it is a great place to meet different kinds of people. You can also interact with them twenty fours hours everyday. Twitter is similar to Facebook and MySpace; it already has millions of users worldwide.
When someone follows you in Twitter, you’re also expected to follow them back; but that remains a personal choice. If you know proper etiquette, you will learn to appreciate them as you use Twitter day by day. The site also provides a tool which allows you to thank all those who followed you so that you will not do it one by one. It is your choice to follow people that catch your interest but you don’t need to expect something in return. Others will simply ignore you because they are not obliged to follow you and you can also do the same.
If you’re an avid Twitter user, you will know what the numbers on the right corner stands for. The three number sets represent the number of followers, the number of following, and the updates. You can post as many times as you like everyday and can follow as many people as you want. However, there is an exception.
As a Twitter user, you should pay close attention to the numbers on the right corner. For instance, when you’re following 2,000 people, a certain number of people should follow you back. Otherwise, you can’t follow more Twitter users.
When you’ve followed 2,000 people, you can no longer follow more unless you’ve met the appropriate number of followers. Even if you try over and over again, your request will not be activated.
One way to resolve this problem is to find out why some individuals don’t follow you back. You can use tools like friendorfollow.com and twitoria.com; the former can provide you with a complete list of those who did not follow you back and the latter will provide you with a list of those you followed but did not post for some time.
Try the sites mentioned so you can easily decide who to ‘un-follow’. If you’re using Twitter now, take note of the three number sets on your profile page. The numbers are important. If you’ve followed many people already, perhaps it’s time to use the tools mentioned so that you won’t encounter the same problem. There may still be other Twitter limits but this is the most common.
Remember too that posting great tweets gets you more followers, and retweeting brings you to the notice of a lot more people. Retweeting is simply passing along tweets others have sent that you want your followers to see too. You just put ‘RT @theirusername’ before repeating what they said. Then they see it right along with your followers.
When you send a request to follow someone and it is not activated, it only means one thing – you’ve hit Twitter’s limit til you have more followers. Don’t worry because you can easily address this problem. When you know the options available to you, you will not encounter any difficulty.
It’s really a good feeling to follow many people on Twitter but it feels better when they follow you back. Making more friends and staying connected 24 hours each day is possible through Twitter. Sign up now because it’s free and enjoy the Twitter experience.

Good tools to know about. I don’t like to unfollow those who don’t follow me, if they are posting good material I can pass on to others. But as I keep running into limits of who I can follow, I like the ability to cull some of those who don’t tweet to make room for those who do.

Great information! Twitter is a great way to build relationships, but like you said, only if you post good quality content that your followers will want to read.
The resources you posted are great… thank you!

Doug, some very good tools here. I found that I was following 332 that were not following me. Since I was at the 10% limit, I un-followed some of them. Thanks for these tools. By the way I really appreciate you developing the Advanced Twitter Marketing System. It is a great system.

great introduction to tweeting, I had an account for ages and didn’t hardly use it until I got a desktop app for it and registered to be able to send pictures to twitpic by email from my blackberry.
Now, twitter is the first place I post when I have news. You can type and post from wherever you are, I love it!

I agree with what Joel Osborne above says about you saying that you need to post good comments/tweets on twitter to get followers, – otherwise, I feel, what’s the point of having followers if they never read what you tweet?

I make the mistake when I started using twitter which is by depending on the flashtweet, a mass follow application. t one time my follow count is nearly reached the limit. FriendorFollow are really big help that time. Now I am not depending on mass follow program and still gaining followers.
